“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.” Proverbs 15:1-2
We create our worlds with our speech. The words that we speak are creative. This knowledge is found in some of the oldest wisdom literatures including the Bible which says, “In the beginning was the Word, logos.” This term logos, which means “the spoken word,” indicates a kind of order. It appears as “ology” in sciences like biology, sociology, theology, and it implies order in the universe. Otherwise, if it’s completely random, why study it? If there’s no meaning behind it, and no way to trace it back, then there’s no use in studying anything. There would be no categories to identify, and no purpose behind it all. So “ology,” or logos, demonstrates organization. And where did it start? With the word. That’s the main idea.
Here’s an example my teacher used. If you want to build a house or a skyscraper building, what’s the first thing you do? After developing the urge into an idea, you verbalize it: “I want to build a building.” By talking about it, you start manifesting the paraphernalia to build it.
Let’s say you need funding. You call somebody up and say, “I need money.” You just said a mantra. Anybody ever used that mantra? “Please send me some funds.” That leads to somebody responding, “How much do you need? How much are you going to give us back?” The money’s already there; you start moving it by your speech. What else do you need? You need a plan. You’ll talk about the blueprint, and you’ll write it down. It manifests from the thought world through your speech and goes down on paper.
You probably know what it’s like to sit in meetings. What happens? We get together and talk. How’s the company running? You may own, or work for, very complicated organizations. How did they develop? We just talked about it. You get on Zoom, start talking, and things begin to happen. Somebody is recording your words, and then they start manifesting outwardly.
In this way, my teacher explained, everything in the world is manifest through speech. Somebody has an idea, they verbalize it, and then the ingredients for it start to assemble. Now, if you trace this back to the ancient wisdom literatures, they agree, “Yeah, that’s how the whole universe develops. Speech comes out from higher intelligence, and then all the paraphernalia comes together.”
